Resits

If you fail part of the SQE, you’ll have the opportunity to resit the assessment — but there are limits to how many times you can try.

Number of attempts

You allowed a maximum of three attempts for each part of the SQE:

  • SQE1: Three attempts at FLK1 and three attempts at FLK2
  • SQE2: Three attempts at the SQE2 assessment

If you fail the same part of the SQE three times, you will need to wait until your six-year assessment window has expired before reapplying to start the SQE again. If you reapply after this period, previous passes will not carry forward.

You cannot resit an assessment you have already passed to improve your mark.

Time limit

You have six years from the date of your first SQE assessment to pass all parts of the SQE. The six-year window starts on the first day of your first attempt at any SQE assessment.

When you can book a resit

You can only book a resit after you’ve received your results for your previous attempt at that assessment. For example, if you want to resit SQE2, you must wait for your most recent SQE2 results before booking.
