How to apply for reasonable adjustments

If you have a disability or condition that means you need support to take your SQE assessments, you can apply for reasonable adjustments (RA).

The application and booking process for candidates requesting adjustments is different. You do not book your assessment online — instead, you tell us what support you need, and we'll handle your booking once everything is in place.

Applying for reasonable adjustments: step by step

  • 1

    Registering for SQE

    1. Before you can request reasonable adjustments, you need to register for an SQE candidate account and activate it.
    2. Make sure you've also completed your identity checks and the pre-booking steps, including the equality and diversity survey.

    Tell us you need adjustments

During your pre-booking steps, you'll be asked if you need reasonable adjustments. Select Yes.

You'll then be prompted to complete the reasonable adjustment application form. This is where you'll:

    1. Describe your disability or condition and how it will affect you in each element of the SQE
    2. Explain what adjustments you need
    3. Tell us which assessment you're applying for (SQE1, SQE2 written, or SQE2 oral)
    4. Share your preferred location and sitting date
    5. Upload supporting medical or professional information

We welcome applications from candidates with disabilities as defined by the Equality Act 2010 — and we may also be able to help if you have a condition or there are other reasons that affect your ability to take the assessment.

    We acknowledge your application

Once you've submitted your application, we'll:

    1. Acknowledge your request within two working days
    2. Reserve a seat at your stated preferred location (if the booking window is open) and a seat is available

You must not book your assessment through the candidate portal. We will do this for you once your adjustments have been agreed and your payment has been received.

  • 4

    You receive your named liaison

Within five working days, you'll be contacted by your reasonable adjustment liaison (RAL). This will be your main point of contact throughout the process.

If we have all the information we need, your RAL will send you a proposed reasonable adjustment plan.

If we need more detail or supporting information, your RAL will explain what’s missing and how to provide it.

  • 5

    Accept and pay

If you're happy with the proposal, you will accept it through your candidate account.

    Once accepted:

    1. If the booking window is open, we'll send you instructions on how to pay
    2. When your payment has been received, we'll finalise your booking
    3. You'll receive a confirmation email once your place is booked.

What happens next?

Your agreed adjustments will be confirmed in writing and arranged for the day(s) of your assessment.

If you're unable to use the online registration, reasonable adjustments and booking system due to your disability or condition, you can contact us directly:
