How to apply for reasonable adjustments

If you have a disability or condition that means you need support to take your SQE assessments, you can apply for reasonable adjustments (RA).

The application and booking process for candidates with adjustments is different. You do not book your assessment online — instead, you tell us what support you need, and we'll handle your booking once everything is in place.

Applying for reasonable adjustments: step by step

  • 1

    Registering for SQE

    1. Before you can apply for reasonable adjustments, you need to register for an SQE candidate account and activate it.
    2. Make sure you've also completed your identity checks and the pre-booking steps, including the equality and diversity survey.

    Tell us you need adjustments

During your pre-booking steps, you’ll be asked if you need reasonable adjustments. Select ‘Yes’ for all assessments you require adjustments for. You should do this as soon as possible so that we can agree your reasonable adjustment plan before the deadline to submit the seat reservation form.

You’ll then be prompted to complete the reasonable adjustment application.. This is made up of two forms: The Assessment Preferences Form and the Reasonable Adjustment Application Form. This is where you’ll:

    1. Tell us which assessment you’re applying for (SQE1, SQE2 written, or SQE2 oral)
    2. Share your preferred location and sitting date
    3. Describe your disability or condition and how it will affect you in each element of the SQE
    4. Explain what adjustments you need
    5. Upload supporting medical or professional information

We welcome applications from candidates with disabilities as defined by the Equality Act 2010 — and we may also be able to help if you have a condition or there are other reasons that affect your ability to take the assessment.

    We contact you

Once you've submitted your application, we'll:

Acknowledge your application within five working days

  • 4

    You receive your named liaison

You’ll then be contacted by your reasonable adjustment liaison (RAL). This will be your main point of contact throughout the process. If we have all the information we need, your RAL will send you a proposed reasonable adjustment plan.

If we need more detail or supporting information, your RAL will explain what’s missing and how to provide it.

Once an adjustment plan has been proposed, you will be asked to accept or not accept the plan via your SQE portal. This should be done before the deadline to submit the seat reservation form.

    Booking your seat

If you're happy with the proposal, you will accept it through your candidate account.

    1. You must ensure to fill out the seat reservation form once it is sent so we can reserve you a seat.
    2. Once a seat has been reserved we will email you the details including the date and location.
    3. We will then contact you for payment to secure the reserved seat. You will have 48 hours to make payment.
    4. Once payment is made your reserved seat will be booked and secured.

What happens next?

Your agreed adjustments will be confirmed in your candidate portal and arranged for the day(s) of your assessment.

If you're unable to use the online registration, reasonable adjustments and booking system due to your disability or condition, you can contact us directly:
