A spell check tool has been added to the Pearson assessment platform for SQE2 written assessments, and will be trialled in the SQE2 July 2026 written assessments.
This tool is designed to help support candidates to identify spelling errors in line with the recommendations in the SQE Independent Reviewer’s Annual Report. It does not offer grammatical corrections, writing assistance or content suggestions.
The tool is available to try out on the SQE2 Pearson practice platform, which can be found on the SQE2 sample questions page*.
There are instructions on how to use the spell check tool on the practice platform and also in the on-screen instructions which candidates receive on the day of the assessment.
Please note, whilst the spell check tool is being trialled, the existing guidance on the approach to spelling and grammar for SQE2 written assessments (which is included in the SQE2 assessment specification) will remain in effect. This includes during the SQE2 July 2026 assessment window.
The section headed “Clear, precise, concise and acceptable language” in the SQE2 assessment specification has been updated to reflect the position that a spell check function is available, but that the guidance on clear, precise, concise and acceptable language is still in effect.
Further information will be provided in relation to the SQE2 assessment windows taking place after July 2026.
* For the purposes of the practice platform only, if spell check is not appearing, please check your Chrome browser settings. To do this, click on ‘Settings’, then ‘Languages’ and ensure spell check is toggled on.
