Update to the Reasonable Adjustments Policy

Feb 20, 2026

We have published an updated Reasonable Adjustments Policy.

Key change

The updated policy requires candidates to apply for their reasonable adjustments earlier and to complete the process of arranging a plan before the deadline for submitting a seat reservation form. This will facilitate bringing the booking process for candidates with reasonable adjustments in line with those candidates who do not have adjustments. Candidates have fed back that they would like to have confirmation of their adjustments and assessment location earlier and these changes will facilitate that.

Other changes

Candidates are encouraged to read the updated policy. Other changes in the new policy include:

  • More information about applying for an accommodation for candidates who have an impairment that is not classed as a disability (such as an acute injury)
  • A new requirement for candidates to provide details of adjustments they have had during their education or in training so that prior adjustment strategies can be considered alongside their supporting information
  • Clarification that reasonable adjustments are provided to address ‘substantial disadvantage’ as set out in the Equality Act 2010.

Timing

The new policy will first apply to candidates that book the October SQE2. However, all candidates sitting other SQE assessments are strongly encouraged to apply for their adjustments as soon as possible from today to ensure the best candidate experience.

For most candidates a reasonable adjustment plan for both SQE1 and SQE2 with up to two years validity will be created. This is in line with changes we introduced in June 2025.
