We have launched changes to the reasonable adjustment process and introduced a reasonable adjustment application form. The changes will improve the experience for candidates taking the SQE with reasonable adjustments.
It is designed to guide candidates in their application with targeted questions. By guiding candidates to provide the information we need for their application, this form will reduce instances where we have to ask candidates for clarification about their application or for further information. It will reduce the time between a candidate making an application and a proposal being made.
Candidates can now submit a single application for a reasonable adjustment plan for SQE1 and SQE2. We will also now make proposals for both SQE1 and SQE2. This will remove the need for separate applications for SQE1 and SQE2. In addition to reducing the number of applications, the changes are also intended to provide peace of mind for candidates regarding their reasonable adjustments across both assessments.
We can now agree reasonable adjustment plans to cover a two-year period, moving away from the previous window-by-window approach. This change significantly reduces the frequency of applications and acknowledges the enduring nature of disabilities. We will review and update adjustment plans as needed, ensuring they remain appropriate over time. Candidates also have the flexibility to request a review of their agreed adjustment plan at any time.
Improvements to the candidate account or portal mean that candidates can easily view the status of their applications, their agreed adjustments, and the expiry date, ensuring transparency and ease of access.
We have also updated the Reasonable Adjustments Q&As to reflect these changes.
The change in approach will apply from today for candidates that make a new request for a reasonable adjustment.
For candidates who have already submitted requests for reasonable adjustments, there is no need for any further action on their part. Their applications are currently being processed as usual, and the changes we have introduced will not affect your existing requests.
We have made these changes in light of candidate feedback on the process and following engagement with candidates on the content and structure of the new application form. We are committed to ensuring a seamless transition and ensuring that all necessary adjustments are implemented without any disruption or additional steps required. We will monitor the application of the new process and will continue to seek feedback from candidates.
Please refer to the Reasonable Adjustments Q&As if you have any questions.
