We have published two new SQE2 sample questions, added guidance on the use of the sample questions and updated the website terms and conditions to allow training providers to use these in their materials.

SQE2 sample questions

The new sample questions are set in the context of (1) Wills and Intestacy, Probate Administration and Practice (a case and matter analysis station) and (2) Business organisations, rules and procedures (a legal writing station). Each sample answer includes a written discussion of the answer, with guidance on the key legal points and a short analysis of the performance of the sample candidate by reference to the criteria for the assessment. These are in addition to the eight existing sample questions which are already available.

We have also provided further guidance “How to use the sample questions” on the SQE2 sample questions page, to help candidates prepare for SQE2.

The existing SQE2 sample questions have been reviewed as part of our annual review. The sample questions and answers have not been changed, but the presentation of the materials has been refreshed, where needed.

Translations of the two new sample questions will be available in Welsh shortly.

Website terms and conditions

Some training providers have indicated that they would like to use some of the sample SQE2 questions in their training materials. We have updated the website terms and conditions to allow this.

The main change is to the section “How you may use material on our site” which provides the authority for this, including the conditions. We encourage you to read the terms and conditions in full and a summary of the changes is below:

• You may extract SQE2 sample questions and performance indicators from the SQE website to include in your training materials provided you ensure all questions used are kept up-to-date, as versions of the questions may be updated from time to time.
• If you provide your own rationale for the answer, you must make it clear in your training materials that the rationale for any answers is provided by you and not endorsed by the SRA or Kaplan.
• You must only use the sample questions in your training materials in conjunction with the following disclaimer “SQE Sample Questions and Performance Indicators remain the property of the SRA and the SRA makes no warranty as to the accuracy of their reproduction or usage in these materials”.
• If you extract SQE2 sample questions or Performance Indicators to include in your training materials, you must include the following statement and link “SQE sample questions and Performance Indicators are available on the SQE website at: https://sqe.sra.org.uk/assessments/sqe2-assessments/sqe2-sample-questions”.
• If you wish to extract, copy or reproduce any material or content identified as belonging to a third party in the SQE2 Sample Questions, then you must obtain permission from such third party.

We made a similar change in August 2024 to allow a similar use of the SQE1 sample questions.
