In June we announced changes to the assessment criteria in the SQE2 assessment specification that apply from 1 September 2026. The changes are to reflect the creation of a separate SQE2 Law criterion for Ethics and Professional Conduct.
By way of reminder, the changes apply for candidates sitting SQE2 after 1 September 2026, so they first apply to the October/November SQE2. In addition to the updated SQE2 Assessment Specification, we published further guidance on this area in June.
Therefore candidates who took the July SQE2 will continue to see the current version of the results (i.e. they will not see the new breakdown) and the existing format of SQE2 results and guidance will still apply to that cohort when results are released after 11am on 17 November.
We will update the website to show only the new results information and guidance that applies for candidates sitting SQE2 from 1 September by the end of 2026, after the July SQE2 results have been released.
